BOaT - RORO

This thing has been touted as a pretty much perfect album, the definition of a summer album, etc etc etc. After finally listening to it, I guess I can see where the hype is coming from, though I'm not really joining it. These guys play a cool kind of mathy post rock that I'm always game for, and they do it very well. Occasional vocals work in the background of these long songs, adding extra texture without forcing the instrumentation back. However, on the two shorter songs, Roots of Summer and Circle Sound, the band takes more of a generic J-rock kinda style that really turns me off. All in all, it's a pretty good album. Maybe it was just those two poppier songs that turned me off, but while the other tracks are nice, they aren't necessarily blowing me away.
